School Resource Officer – Augusta RYDC

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a dedicated School Resource Officer to provide a safe and secure environment at the Augusta RYDC Administration/Education Building. Reporting to supervisors, you will perform a full range of law‑enforcement duties within a detention‑facility educational setting, supporting students, staff, and the broader community.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain security and order by performing all law‑enforcement duties in a professional manner.
• Provide security clearance for each student entering and exiting the secure area, including bathroom, class, and lunch breaks.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways, and offices to ensure safety.
• Address disruptive behavior, dress code violations, tardiness, and absenteeism.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after each movement period.
• Monitor security equipment and camera systems, reporting issues promptly.
• Collaborate with supervisors, education staff, and support personnel to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
• Lead group discussions on law‑enforcement topics as requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Successful completion of Georgia POST Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Current GAPOST professional profile with PBLE number.
• Preference for an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field.
• One or more years experience as a School Resource Officer (preferred).
• Three years experience as a Peace Officer with valid Georgia POST certification (preferred).
• Two or more years supervisory experience in police or investigations (preferred).
