School-Based Mental Health Counselor (Full-Time)

About the role

The School-Based Mental Health Counselor provides direct mental health services to elementary students at Prettyboy Elementary School, working on‑site during the school day and following the school calendar.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site individual and small‑group counseling to elementary students during school hours.
• Conduct initial mental health screenings and assessments for referred students.
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans in line with clinical and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record system, complying with Medicaid, COMAR, and organizational guidelines.
• Collaborate with school staff, student support teams, families, and interdisciplinary partners to create effective behavioral and mental‑health strategies.
• Participate in school‑based meetings such as IEP/504 plans, behavior intervention plans, and student support team discussions.
• Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and support as needed.
• Assist with referrals to internal and external providers, including psychiatric services and community resources.
