About the role
The United Nations is seeking a Sanctions Expert to support the implementation and monitoring of Security Council sanctions regimes. Working under the guidance of the relevant Sanctions Committee(s), the consultant will conduct research, analysis, and reporting on alleged violations.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor sanctions measures and analyse alleged violations or non‑compliance in line with Security Council mandates.
- Prepare updates, reports and briefings for the Committee and the Security Council, including periodic reporting as required.
- Develop recommendations to improve implementation of sanctions resolutions based on analysis, field visits and outreach.
- Compile information for potential designation of individuals or entities breaching sanctions.
- Coordinate closely with regional/international organisations and UN entities.
- Monitor media and social media for relevant developments.
- Deliver briefings and presentations on sanctions regimes and related activities.
- Assist States and organisations in strengthening capacities for sanctions implementation.
- Participate in missions, consultations and field visits to gather information from governments, civil society and UN presences.
Required profile
- Demonstrated expertise in sanctions regimes and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
- Experience conducting research, analysis and high‑quality reporting on compliance issues.
- Ability to work under delegated authority and adhere to strict evidentiary standards.
- Strong communication skills for briefing diverse audiences and drafting official documents.
- Willingness to travel and engage with stakeholders across regions.
