Safety & Security Officer

About the role

We are looking for a Safety & Security Officer to protect visitors, staff and assets at our zoo locations. The role involves patrolling the grounds, monitoring cameras and responding quickly to incidents, including providing first‑aid care.

Key responsibilities

• Control access to buildings and premises using keys, locks, clickers and visitor logs.
• Enforce zoo rules, assist guests, and escort vendors, inspectors and contractors.
• Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms and crowd movements.
• Patrol indoor and outdoor areas regularly to maintain order and visibility.
• Inspect fences, gates and barriers for breaches and investigate suspicious activity.
• Act as first responder for emergencies, providing first aid, CPR and AED support, and coordinate with police or fire services.
• Maintain accurate incident reports and daily logs for supervisors.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, climb and lift up to 50 lb repeatedly.

Required skills

• Basic computer proficiency.
• First Aid certification.
• CPR certification.
• Training on AED use.
• Experience with surveillance and access‑control systems.
