Risk Management Manager

About the role

The Home Depot is looking for a Risk Management Manager to develop, execute and manage the company's insurance, self-insurance, contractual risk transfer and risk management information programs, with the main aim of controlling exposures and losses. The role sits under general direction, typically reports to the Director of Risk Management and has no direct supervision of others.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure placement and administration of insurance and surety bond programs, including retention analyses, coverage negotiations and policy/certificate maintenance; act as primary liaison with insurance brokers and carriers.
• Control self-insurance programs, including an annual review of cost effectiveness, and ensure government reporting obligations are met.
• Evaluate risk levels of company agreements and contracts, focusing on insurance and risk transfer provisions, and give feedback to Legal and outside counsel.
• Implement processes to review loss data and build actuarial loss reserves for workers' compensation, Texas non-subscriber, automobile liability and general liability.
• Develop the corporate insurance program and evaluate risk transfer and retention levels against company strategy and risk appetite.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the risk information system and act as liaison with the vendor; oversee monthly and ad hoc reports.
• Manage the certificate of insurance tracking program for vendors, installers and others with contractual obligations.
• Select, develop, motivate and evaluate subordinate associates and vendor partners.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Preferred: MBA with a focus on Risk Management, CPCU, ARM or equivalent designations; CPA and financial/accounting experience in a public company or a Risk Assessment Manager in a Big 4 firm.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, accounting degree, and 2 years of work experience.

Required skills

• Intimate knowledge of insurance contracts and other risk transfer vehicles.
• Understanding of financial and accounting principles.
• Ability to manage and control outside vendor partners.
• Working knowledge of risk and claims management information systems.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with negotiating skills.
