Return ‘Em Right Outreach Coordinator (Project Specialist I)

About the role

Texas Sea Grant is hiring a full‑time Return ‘Em Right Outreach Coordinator (Project Specialist I) to lead outreach and communication campaigns that promote sustainable recreational fishing practices across Texas and Louisiana coastal areas.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate outreach programs that reduce catch‑and‑release mortality caused by barotrauma.
• Develop educational resources, workshops, trainings and public events for fishing communities and stakeholders.
• Serve as regional ambassador for the Return ‘Em Right program, representing Sea Grant at expos, tournaments and conferences.
• Manage project budget elements, assist with contracts and track progress toward project goals.

Required profile

• Extensive recreational saltwater and reef‑fish angling experience with knowledge of barotrauma mitigation.
• Strong public speaking, interpersonal and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
• Willingness to obtain saltwater fishing licenses in Texas and Louisiana.
• Ability to travel up to 35% of the time and work occasional weekends or evenings.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Gulf of America recreational fisheries and sustainable fishing practices.
• Experience creating and delivering outreach, education and stakeholder‑engagement programs.
• Proficiency in using social‑media and digital communication tools for outreach.
