Retail Fuel Inspector / Agriculture Inspector

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Retail Fuel Inspector 1 and Agriculture Inspector 1 to ensure compliance at retail fueling locations across the state. This field‑based position involves inspecting fuel dispensing equipment, storage tanks, and related signage while providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Register retail fuel locations and verify product, pump, and pricing information.
• Check antifreeze brands for state registration.
• Validate dispenser accuracy for volume and monetary readings.
• Collect, transport, and submit fuel samples to the State Fuel Lab.
• Respond promptly to consumer complaints and requests.
• Inspect underground and above‑ground storage tanks for identification, water intrusion, and seal integrity.
• Attend required meetings and training seminars.
• Maintain the State‑provided vehicle and related equipment.

Required profile

• Valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to reside in or relocate to Watkinsville or Athens, GA.
• Basic mathematical proficiency and general computer literacy.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Windows operating system.
• Basic computer skills.
