Respiratory Therapist – Skilled Unit (Georgia Regional Hospital)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Skilled Unit at Georgia Regional Hospital in Decatur. Under general supervision, you will assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders, delivering therapeutic procedures and maintaining accurate client records.

Key responsibilities

• Determine treatment requirements, including type, method, duration, and medication dosages in line with physicians' orders.
• Educate patients and families on disease management, breathing exercises, medication use, and respiratory equipment.
• Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment, ordering repairs as needed.
• Monitor patients' physiological responses, vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry, consulting physicians when adverse reactions occur.
• Provide emergency care such as artificial respiration, external cardiac massage, and CPR assistance.
• Set up and operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, capable of delivering respiratory therapy services safely and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow physicians' orders precisely.
• Effective communication skills for patient and family education.
