Research Support Specialist

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Health seeks a full‑time Research Support Specialist to join the Caban‑Martinez Lab. The position supports the Firefighter Cancer Initiative, conducting both office‑based and field‑based research focused on cancer prevention in the firefighting community.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, analyze, and synthesize research data; maintain and update study databases.
• Perform quality‑assurance checks, generate status reports, and submit monthly activity logs.
• Organize and coordinate community working‑group meetings and serve as the primary contact for fire department partners.
• Oversee participant recruitment, enrollment, adherence to protocols, and biological sample collection.
• Prepare and revise study procedure manuals and assist with grant‑proposal regulatory documentation.
• Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and other dissemination materials.
• Maintain research files, respond to study‑related inquiries, and support statistical aspects of daily activities.

Required profile

• Experience with human subjects research, including recruitment and data collection.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple fire department locations.
