About the role

The Research Security Analyst will lead LSU’s efforts to assess foreign influence risks, review international research collaborations, and ensure compliance with federal research security regulations. The role supports faculty engaged in global research while safeguarding the university’s intellectual property and national security interests.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement and support compliance with federal research security requirements such as NSPM-33 and the CHIPS and Science Act (30%).
  • Evaluate research proposals and collaborations involving foreign entities, focusing on countries of concern and potential adversary risks (20%).
  • Review international research agreements, sub‑awards, and grants for export‑control, data‑security, and integrity risks (10%).
  • Monitor foreign gifts and contracts to ensure compliance with Section 117 reporting and other disclosure obligations (10%).
  • Develop and deliver research‑security training for faculty, staff, and students (10%).
  • Coordinate with sponsored programs, legal, and compliance offices to maintain accurate records and reporting (10%).

Required profile

  • Strong understanding of evolving federal research security regulations and geopolitical risk.
  • Experience conducting risk‑based assessments of international research activities.
  • Ability to communicate recommendations to senior leadership and collaborate across multiple university units.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining compliance documentation.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of NSPM‑33, CHIPS and Science Act, and related federal research security policies.
  • Familiarity with export‑control regulations and Section 117 foreign‑gift reporting.
  • Experience reviewing international research agreements, sub‑awards, and grant contracts.
  • Ability to develop and deliver compliance training programs.
