Research Scientist, Condensed Matter Theory

About the role

Periodic Labs is seeking a Research Scientist in Condensed Matter Theory to bridge theoretical modeling, first‑principles calculations and experimental data. You will work alongside computational, experimental, and machine‑learning teams to accelerate the discovery of novel quantum materials.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and apply theoretical models that interpret experimental observations and guide materials discovery.
• Connect first‑principles calculations (e.g., DFT) with experimental results to build predictive physical understanding.
• Collaborate with ML researchers to embed theoretical insights into machine‑learning models and shape training data strategies.
• Design experiments with computational and experimental scientists and validate theoretical predictions.
• Communicate findings clearly across disciplines and contribute to a shared scientific roadmap.

Required profile

• PhD in condensed‑matter theory with a focus on quantum materials.
• Proven track record of independent, high‑impact research and strong publication record.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across theory, computation, and experiment.

Required skills

• Density functional theory (DFT) and other first‑principles calculations.
• Graph neural networks and deep‑learning methods applied to materials or physics problems.
• Modeling of superconductivity and magnetism in quantum materials.
• High‑throughput computational workflows and familiarity with materials databases.
