Research Farm Assistant 2 – Classified Technician

About the role

The Research Farm Assistant 2 provides specialized, routine care and maintenance of animals, crops, equipment, and facilities within a research environment. This position supports experimental farming practices and ensures that research plots and livestock are managed according to scientific protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Operate complex farm machinery (tractors, lawn mowers, rotary cutters, seed broadcasters, chemical application equipment) to perform precise field production techniques.
• Care for livestock, including feeding, medication administration, health checks, breeding, and milking.
• Perform minor adjustments, repairs, and routine maintenance on farm equipment, ATVs, and shop tools.
• Maintain property infrastructure such as fences, drainage ditches, and enclosures; spray fence‑line weeds and repair gates.
• Keep simple records of feed mixes, consumption, produce mortality, seed usage, and other farming operations.
• Assist with maintenance of shop areas, shade structures, and the main building.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year experience in animal care, crop or plant management, or farm equipment operation, or six semester hours in an agricultural field.
• Experienced level work with general supervision from higher‑level personnel.

• Operation of tractors, lawn mowers, ATVs, and specialized farm machinery.
• Farm equipment maintenance and minor repairs.

• Crop planting, cultivation, and harvest techniques.
