Research Engineer I – Laser Diagnostics

About the role

The Research Engineer I will join the Laser Diagnostics team at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex. This position focuses on developing and applying laser technologies for hypersonic and directed‑energy applications, supporting advanced aerospace research.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and test laser‑diagnostic instrumentation for hypersonic and directed‑energy experiments.
• Collaborate with subject‑matter experts, graduate students, and external partners to advance laser‑based measurement techniques.
• Lead experimental campaigns in the Aerospace Laboratory for Lasers, ElectroMagnetics and Optics (ALLEMO), NAHL, and BAM Range.
• Analyze data, evaluate performance, and produce technical reports and publications.
• Serve as principal investigator on assigned research projects.

Required profile

• Earned degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex technical problems.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with experimental research.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
