Research Associate (Economic Research)

About the role

The Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a motivated Research Associate to support innovative macro‑economic and policy research. This two‑year program, starting summer 2027, offers hands‑on experience working alongside PhD economists on real‑world economic analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Assist PhD economists with policy briefings and academic research projects.
• Gather, clean, and analyze large economic datasets.
• Program and run economic models, and produce visualizations for presentations.
• Contribute to econometric or theoretical research papers and Bank publications.
• Present findings to civic and educational audiences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field.
• Strong academic record with coursework or experience in econometrics, mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct empirical research and data analysis.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Stata.
• Proficiency in R.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Proficiency in Matlab.
