About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Economic Research Department is seeking a Research Associate to support its Banking & Financial Markets group. This two‑year position offers hands‑on experience in economic analysis, data handling, and model development, ideal for candidates considering a PhD in economics or finance.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with PhD economists on policy briefings and academic research projects.
• Gather, clean, and analyze banking and financial data.
• Program and run economic models, generate charts, and prepare presentation materials.
• Contribute to econometric or theoretical research papers and Bank publications.
• Present findings to civic, educational, and professional audiences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field.
• Strong academic record with experience in empirical research and data analysis.
• Interest in pursuing advanced study (PhD) in economics or finance.

Required skills

• Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Stata, R, Python, or Matlab.
• Experience with econometrics, statistical analysis, and high‑performance computing environments.
