Research Assistant – Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a full‑time Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering to support a grant‑funded project on peripheral nerve regeneration. This on‑site position is a one‑year contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experimental studies involving neuron cell culture and biomolecular analysis.
• Prepare scientific manuscripts, contribute to grant proposals, and present findings at conferences.
• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and data analysis.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and biologists to generate innovative research ideas.
• Assist the principal investigator with lab management, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and inventory control.
• Participate in the development and validation of new biomedical tools, devices, or models.

Required profile

• Strong background in tissue and cellular biology, preferably with experience in nerve or neuronal studies.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and analyze data.
• Excellent written communication skills for manuscript and grant preparation.
• Experience supervising students or junior lab personnel.
