Research Assistant – Community Health Worker

About the role

The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University seeks three Research Assistants to serve as Community Health Workers (CHWs). In this temporary, fixed‑term position you will support community‑based research, build trust with local residents, and help collect and manage survey data.

Key responsibilities

• Explain the study, procedures, and participant rights clearly to community members.
• Attend local events, advertise the study, and develop relationships with community organizations.
• Recruit eligible participants using approved outreach methods and maintain contact logs.
• Conduct follow‑up calls, appointment reminders, and ethical refusal conversion efforts.
• Administer surveys (face‑to‑face, telephone, paper, tablet or web) following study protocols and informed consent.
• Document survey responses accurately while protecting confidentiality.
• Distribute and track gift‑card incentives according to study procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education/experience.
• Knowledge of community health resources and services in Houston.
• Experience with community canvassing or public‑health outreach.
• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Required skills

• Basic computer proficiency for data entry and survey software.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
