Remote Mathematics Specialist – Freelance Contractor

About the role

Turing is seeking a remote Mathematics Specialist to design and deliver advanced reasoning datasets that evaluate Large Language Models (LLMs). The role focuses on creating novel mathematical systems, defining custom axioms, and building rigorous proof‑based challenges to improve model capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and define new mathematical frameworks, operations, and axiomatic structures for evaluation tasks.
• Author multi‑step reasoning problems involving symbolic manipulation, expression evaluation, and proof construction.
• Develop deterministic solutions, detailed reasoning traces, and scoring rubrics for model assessment.
• Identify and resolve edge cases, ambiguities, and logical inconsistencies to ensure robustness.
• Collaborate with reviewers and AI/LLM teams to refine task definitions and dataset quality standards.

Required profile

• PhD or Doctorate in mathematics, formal logic, theoretical computer science, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in mathematics, computer science, data science, or a related analytical discipline.
• Proven ability to create structured reasoning problems that test both conceptual understanding and procedural accuracy.
• Excellent written communication skills for documenting definitions, proofs, and reasoning processes.

Required skills

• Abstract mathematics
• Formal logic
• Algebraic structures
• Discrete mathematics
• Theoretical computer science

What we offer

• Fully remote work environment.
• Opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.
