Registration Specialist (PRN, Day-Weekend)

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth's HD AH Cancer Institute in Hinsdale, Illinois, is hiring a Registration Specialist on a PRN basis, working day-shifts that alternate Saturdays, from 7am to 6pm. The role covers patient registration, insurance verification, Medicare compliance and front-desk support.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed
• Create patient financial responsibility estimates, collect payments or set up payment plans
• Coordinate with utilization management on pre-authorization and contact insurers to verify eligibility and benefits
• Register patients for all services, collect demographic data and confirm insurance details
• Provide coverage for assigned areas during shifts, arrange relief coverage and cover the switchboard as needed
• Manage communication between clinical, ancillary and access departments, document patient and insurer conversations, and attend department meetings
• Perform cashiering functions such as collections and cash reconciliation

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required); associate degree preferred
• 1+ year of customer service, healthcare or revenue cycle experience preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Preferred certifications: CHAA and CRCR

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced understanding of EMR systems
• Knowledge of insurance benefits and CMS, EMTALA and HIPAA compliance
• Customer service experience
