Registered Nurse – Infection Control

About the role

The Infection Control Registered Nurse (RN) leads surveillance, education, and consultation activities to prevent and control infections across Ochsner Health facilities. Working independently with minimal direction, the RN collaborates with the Infection Control Team to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, update, and evaluate the Infection Control manual, Blood‑borne Pathogen, and TB Exposure Control Plans.
• Conduct infection surveillance, provide education, and offer consultation to staff.
• Collaborate with the Infection Control Team to revise the Infection Control Plan.
• Serve as a resource for all healthcare workers on infection‑control issues.
• Coordinate reporting of mandated reportable diseases with public health agencies.
• Travel between facilities and work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call periods.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience.
• Certification in infection control obtained within three years of hire.
• Active membership in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
• Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication for presenting information to diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of infectious disease processes, aseptic technique, and principles of infection transmission and prevention.
