Registered Nurse - Infection Control

About the role
The Infection Preventionist role provides essential infection control expertise to Veterans and VA staff, ensuring safe care environments. The Registered Nurse will deliver education, develop technical competencies, supervise infection control activities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of patient safety.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver fundamental infection control knowledge to the Veteran population and VA employees.
- Develop and supervise technical infection control practices.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate infection control measures, including age‑specific components.
- Conduct surveillance of infection trends and report findings.
- Monitor compliance with infection prevention standards and provide guidance to clinical teams.
Required profile
- Proficiency in written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Graduate of an ACEN‑ or CCNE‑accredited nursing program (or equivalent foreign nursing education with validated equivalency).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Ability to obtain a state nursing license prior to appointment if currently in a bridge program and meet VA Handbook 5005 Appendix G6 guidelines.
