Registered Nurse I – Transfer Opportunity in Los Angeles

About the role

The County of Los Angeles is offering a transfer opportunity for Registered Nurse I staff to join Juvenile Court Health Services (JCHS) in Sylmar. This permanent, full‑time position supports the health needs of the underserved juvenile detention population.

Key responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessments, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and processing.
• Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and provide patient education.
• Document care accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Interview and assess patients during admission, triage, clinics, and discharge.
• Collaborate with clinicians on medical management and assist in emergency situations.
• Educate youth, families, and non‑nursing staff on health topics.
• Support quality‑assurance, infection‑control, and safety initiatives.
• Coordinate care with private physicians, public facilities, and other health centers.
• Follow standardized clinical workflows and policies across JCHS sites.

Required profile

• Current County of Los Angeles employee with payroll title Registered Nurse I and successful probation completion.
• Strong nursing assessment skills with the ability to prioritize quickly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to interact effectively with adolescents.
• Positive, team‑oriented attitude with strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
• Experience in Med‑Surgical/ER and/or Psychiatric/Correctional health settings.
• Proficient computer literacy.
