Registered Dental Hygienist

About the role

Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH), a Federally Qualified Health Center founded in 1989 and serving over 28,000 patients at eight health centers, is hiring a Registered Dental Hygienist. The RDH provides comprehensive dental care through preventative and therapeutic oral health services, including patient examinations, tooth cleaning and oral hygiene education.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct oral health assessments, review patient history and perform cleanings and application of preventative materials according to the treatment plan.
• Take dental radiographs, identify oral health concerns such as gingival disease or cavities, and collaborate with the dentist on individualized treatment plans.
• Perform periodontal therapy and maintenance care for patients with gum disease.
• Educate patients on brushing, flossing, diet and the importance of regular dental visits.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment, and prepare the operatory for each visit.
• Chart and update notes and telephone encounters in the electronic health record in line with clinic policy.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene preferred.
• Certification or diploma from a NYS qualifying or ADA-accredited dental hygiene program.
• 3+ years in a healthcare or customer service setting at an independent level preferred.
• Valid government-issued photo ID and current CPR certification (can be provided after hire).
• Current, unrestricted NYS Dental Hygienist license and completed continuing education for renewal and privileging.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic health records.
• Knowledge of dental anatomy, preventive oral care and infection control.
• Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and to work independently.
