Recreation Supervisor – Youth Programs (Georgia)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Recreation Supervisor to lead evidence‑based recreation and leisure activities for youth at the Martha K. Glaze Residential Youth Development Center in Hampton, GA. This position plays a key role in fostering decision‑making, physical fitness, and social skills among residents.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver a monthly recreation and leisure schedule aligned with evidence‑based practices.
• Instruct and counsel youth through lectures, demonstrations, and hands‑on activities.
• Supervise part‑time recreational workers, including scheduling, training, and performance monitoring.
• Maintain daily service logs, inventory supplies, and prepare requisitions for equipment.
• Ensure program compliance with DJJ policies and provide coverage for all youth daily.
• Participate in staff recruitment, interviews, and onboarding.
• Conduct rounds in housing units to guarantee services for youth in isolation or protective custody.
• Assist with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) events as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in recreation, youth development, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with at‑risk youth or in a correctional/rehabilitation setting.
• Strong organizational and supervisory abilities.
• Ability to adapt instructional methods to diverse abilities and interests.

Required skills

• Knowledge of evidence‑based recreation programming.
• Basic inventory management.
• Effective communication and counseling techniques.
