Recreation Manager – Outdoor Pursuits

About the role

The Recreation Manager will lead the Outdoor Pursuits Department at Makena Golf & Beach Club on Maui, creating memorable experiences for members and guests. This position oversees land, water, racquet, and Kids Club programming while ensuring safety and high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Outdoor Pursuits team, including hiring, training, and daily briefings.
• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and SOPs for all activities.
• Coordinate on‑land and water programs such as E‑foil, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, snorkeling, archery, paintball, paddle boarding, and more.
• Oversee inventory, loss prevention, and departmental budgeting.
• Run the Kids Camp program and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
• Collaborate with third‑party vendors and contract staff to maintain club standards.
• Provide activity reports and contribute to continuous improvement of the guest experience.

Required profile

• Minimum three years experience in a 4‑5 star resort or luxury hospitality setting.
• At least three years of staff supervision experience.
• Full knowledge of outdoor pursuits services and activities.
• First aid/CPR certification and Lifeguard/Ocean Safety training.
• Comfortable swimming in the ocean and experienced in teaching/coaching watersports.
• Strong background in guest service.
