Recreation Assistant

About the role

The Recreation Assistant supports the operation and maintenance of outdoor recreational facilities such as parks, pools, family camps, RV storage, and equipment rentals. This position ensures facilities are safe, clean, and ready for public use while providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Open and close outdoor facilities and verify customer eligibility.
• Schedule equipment and areas, answer phone calls, and provide information about facility operations.
• Operate digital point‑of‑sale systems and cash registers, handle transactions and sell new or used items.
• Provide guests with details on on‑ and off‑base recreation programs.
• Perform routine cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and restroom maintenance.
• Demonstrate safe use of bicycles, rafts, kayaks, canoes, motor boats, lawn equipment, and bounce castles.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain recreation equipment and facilities.
• Load and unload equipment onto trailers, vehicles, and storage racks.
• Operate water pumps and manage chemical additives to meet pool water standards.
• Maintain reports, perform clerical duties, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Required profile

• Successful completion of a background investigation, physical examination, and drug testing.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to lift or move objects up to 100 pounds.
• Eligibility for preference categories such as Military Spouse, Veteran, or Transition Hiring.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.

Required skills

• Operation of digital point‑of‑sale systems and cash registers.
• Basic computer and clerical skills for reporting and record keeping.
• Knowledge of water pump operation and chemical treatment for pools.
• Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of recreational equipment.
• Facility cleaning and custodial techniques.
