About the role
The City of Carson is seeking a friendly and efficient Receptionist/Switchboard Operator to serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers. This part‑time position supports the Community Center and various city departments by handling high call volumes and performing general clerical duties.
Key responsibilities
- Answer and direct a high volume of public calls using a multi‑line telephone switchboard.
- Greet visitors, provide information, and guide them to the appropriate department.
- Perform clerical tasks such as typing, filing, mail handling, and record searches.
- Operate standard office equipment, including fax, copier, and computer systems.
- Maintain accurate logs of calls and visitor interactions.
Required profile
- High school education or equivalent with basic literacy and arithmetic skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
- Capability to meet minimal physical and medical standards for the role.
Required skills
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
- Proficiency in operating a telephone switchboard.
- Experience with standard office machines (fax, copier, computer).
