R&D Test Engineer – Heat Exchanger Testing

About the role

Alfa Laval is seeking a Test Engineer to join its U.S. R&D laboratory in Richmond, VA. You will support experimental development and validation of brazed and fusion‑bonded heat exchangers for two‑phase applications, working hands‑on with test rigs, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform calibration, functional checks, and maintenance of sensors, instrumentation, and measurement probes.
• Operate and monitor heat‑exchanger test rigs, thermal loops, and two‑phase systems; record and validate performance data.
• Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to meet U.S. safety and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot test setups, instrumentation issues, and refrigeration‑based systems.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in testing, laboratory work, or similar engineering roles.
• Electrical Safety Certification or exposure to OSHA Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital data‑collection tools.
• Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation calibration.
• Knowledge of refrigeration systems, thermal loops, and two‑phase technologies.
• Familiarity with heat‑transfer equipment and thermal performance testing.
