R&D Technical Lead – Advanced Software Development (Cambridge)

About the role

The R&D Technical Lead will provide technical leadership for the Advanced Development (AD) Software workstream supporting the ICE Software Innovation Program. You will lead definition, development, verification, and maturation of advanced ultrasound imaging and navigation algorithms while acting as the primary technical interface across software, acoustics, clinical, marketing, and program‑management teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the AD Software workstream – set technical strategy, roadmap, architecture, algorithm development, feasibility studies, proof‑of‑concept activities and decision‑making in close collaboration with Philips Ultrasound.
• Represent the AD Software workstream on the Core Team, ensure technical alignment from research to prototype, define success criteria, manage risks and influence cross‑functional planning.
• Mentor software engineers, scientists and algorithm developers across geographically distributed teams and serve as the primary escalation point for technical issues.
• Lead development, tuning, verification and validation of advanced computer‑vision, image‑processing and AI‑enabled ultrasound algorithms.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience developing medical imaging, computer‑vision, image‑processing, robotics, navigation or AI algorithms and leading cross‑functional R&D projects in regulated medical‑device environments.
• PhD or MS in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Robotics or a related field.
• Proven ability to transition research concepts into commercial products.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across multi‑disciplinary teams.

What we offer

• Base salary range $157,000 – $249,000 per year, plus potential annual incentive bonus and long‑term incentives.
