R&D Engineering Internship – Summer 2027

About the role

Are you interested in an Intern opportunity with Philips? We welcome individuals who are currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) and/or graduate (MS) degree to participate in a paid internship at our Plymouth, MN site. Through this role you will gain meaningful, hands‑on experience in engineering at a medical device company.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and quality of the devices manufactured in our facility meet customer and patient needs.
• Assist in research and development activities associated with new product development and sustaining.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional team members throughout product development phases to ensure program success.
• Make data‑driven decisions using appropriate analytical methodologies.
• Verify that designs meet functional requirements through engineering analyses and testing.
• Establish test methods, acceptance criteria, and test equipment for all stages of product development.
• Write test protocols, analyze data, and document findings in test reports.

Required profile

• Completed at least 75% of studies in a bachelor’s program in mechanical, biomedical, or a related engineering discipline.
• Desire to understand and communicate how the product is used, designed, and manufactured, and to establish test methods to evaluate design concepts.
• Detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to communicate information effectively.
• Ability to multitask, take ownership, and collaborate cross‑functionally with others.
• Experience using SolidWorks, Excel, and Minitab.

What we offer
