R&D Engineer – Hydrogen Refueling Stations

About the role

Toyota’s Fuel Cell Development department is seeking a motivated Engineer to support the design, development, deployment, testing and troubleshooting of Hydrogen Refuel Stations (HRS). The role will help Toyota transition from an automotive company to a hydrogen mobility company, contributing to the creation of a new mobility culture.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute test plans for hydrogen refueling stations.
• Develop design documents for permitting and construction of HRS.
• Confirm station performance and safety compliance with codes and standards such as SAE J2601, ANSI/CSA HGV 4.3, NFPA 2, ISO 14687, ISO 19880‑8, etc.
• Analyze technical test data and propose countermeasures.
• Evaluate emerging hydrogen technologies and companies.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations.
• Manage schedules and budgets to ensure timely delivery.
• Serve as technical communications spokesperson for the Hydrogen Ecosystem and Fuel Cell Vehicles.
• Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 3 + years experience in hydrogen infrastructure development, deployment, or operations across any stage of the hydrogen value chain.
• Ability to travel up to 20%, including international assignments.
