About the role
The Radiation Safety Compliance Coordinator supports LSU’s Radiation Safety Office by overseeing daily operations, managing administrative duties, and ensuring compliance with federal and state radiation regulations. The role is essential for protecting personnel, the environment, and university assets involved in ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation activities.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain office records, radiation user database, fee calculations, lab equipment, and vehicle fleet.
- Supervise up to five student workers each academic year.
- Process radiation user applications, administer safety examinations, and manage the mandated radiation monitoring program.
- Coordinate receipt, shipment, storage, processing, disposal, and transport of radioactive materials and oversee mixed waste management.
- Conduct laboratory surveys, audits, source inventories, leak tests, and calibrate radiation survey meters.
- Perform laser hazard analyses for Class 3B and Class 4 systems, advise on export/import controls, and manage microwave, radiofrequency, and ultraviolet safety programs.
- Maintain specialized equipment and irradiators, respond to radiation incidents, and handle emergency situations.
Required profile
- Experience with radiation safety program administration.
- Ability to supervise student workers and manage multiple regulatory tasks.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
