Quality Engineer I - Aerospace Product Development

About the role

Shield AI, a defense-tech company developing aircraft and simulation technologies, is hiring an Associate Quality Engineer in Seattle. The role supports quality engineering activities throughout the development of XBAT, a first-of-a-kind aerospace and defense product, working closely with Design, Systems, Manufacturing, Test, Supply Chain and Program Management to identify and mitigate product and process risks. It is an early-career engineering position focused on building expertise in quality engineering and product assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Support quality engineering activities across the XBAT product development lifecycle and partner with Design Engineering to identify product risks and set up controls.
• Take part in design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, test reviews and other milestones from a quality perspective.
• Help investigate and analyse the root causes of prototype, test and manufacturing failures, and lead or support RCCA activities.
• Manage nonconforming material and prototype hardware, including containment, investigation, disposition and documentation.
• Evaluate engineering and manufacturing changes for quality risks and support verification activities.
• Help develop inspection, test and verification strategies based on product risk, and support First Article Inspection.
• Support audits and assessments of development processes against AS9100, customer, contractual and program requirements.
• Develop and maintain quality documentation, procedures, checklists and objective evidence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Quality Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 0-3 years of engineering, quality, manufacturing, test or related experience.

Preferred qualifications

• Aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics or electronics project experience.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or other aerospace/quality management systems.
• Root cause analysis, 8D, RCCA, CAPA, DMAIC, FMEA, risk management, reliability engineering, configuration management, GD&T and engineering drawings.
