Purchasing Specialist I

About the role

The Purchasing Specialist I supports the organization’s procurement operations by managing purchase orders, supplier relationships, and reporting activities. This role works closely with internal stakeholders and the supply base to ensure timely delivery of goods and services while maintaining compliance with corporate policies.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process purchase order requests, securing supplier‑provided products and services.
• Track orders, resolve matching errors, and act as liaison between Accounts Payable, receiving, and suppliers.
• Conduct transactional bidding, single‑source negotiations, and issue Request for Quotations (RFQs).
• Establish and manage blanket purchase orders, monitor spend, and handle expirations.
• Support year‑end close‑out of expired or inactive purchase orders.
• Escalate supplier performance or stability concerns to purchasing managers.
• Process vendor supply reports for distribution to department managers.
• Assist sourcing specialists with marketplace research and new supplier evaluations.
• Contribute to the development of procurement processes, procedures, and standards.
• Maintain and update the Item Master in the purchasing system.
• Facilitate contingent labor onboarding, training, and tenure requests.
