Purchasing Agent – Manufacturing Supply Chain

About the role

The Purchasing Agent supports production and customer requirements by managing day‑to‑day purchasing activities for assigned materials and suppliers. This position ensures timely order placement, monitors supplier performance, and contributes to cost‑saving and inventory‑optimization initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Review demand, inventory levels, forecasts and system recommendations to determine purchasing needs.
• Create, issue, revise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accurate pricing, lead times and quantities.
• Monitor supplier confirmations, shipment schedules and delivery performance.
• Expedite critical orders, address material shortages and coordinate solutions for supply disruptions.
• Support inventory optimization by balancing service levels, working capital and storage considerations.
• Solicit quotes, compare supplier offerings and support cost‑saving initiatives.
• Resolve receiving, invoice, pricing and delivery discrepancies with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier and item master data in ERP/MRP systems.
• Prepare reports on open orders, inventory exposure and purchasing activities.
• Communicate regularly with vendors regarding order status and changes.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, materials or supply chain, preferably in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of purchasing fundamentals and MRP signals.
• Ability to work independently while escalating issues when necessary.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for purchase order and inventory management.
• Experience soliciting quotes and performing supplier comparisons.
