Public Works Maintenance Worker

About the role

Under general supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker is responsible for routine upkeep of city streets, sidewalks, and municipal buildings. The position works Monday‑through‑Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, performing cleaning, debris removal, and graffiti abatement to keep public spaces safe and presentable.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and load rubbish, debris, and refuse from streets and containers onto trucks.
• Sweep, wash, and maintain cement walks, driveways, and sidewalks.
• Perform routine graffiti removal using paint rollers and pressure washers.
• Operate and maintain cleaning tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good condition.
• Maintain regular attendance and follow safety procedures.

Required profile

• Combination of education and/or experience that provides knowledge of basic maintenance methods, tools, and safe work practices.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively with the public and team members.
• Valid California Class “C” driver’s license.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and light power tools.
• Operation of pressure washers and paint rollers for graffiti abatement.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lb, squat, kneel, climb stairs, and work outdoors for extended periods.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license.
