Public Safety/Security Officer

About the role

The University of Arkansas seeks a dedicated Public Safety/Security Officer to help maintain a safe campus environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position supports the university’s mission by providing visible security presence, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety policies.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol campus grounds, buildings, and parking areas to deter and detect security concerns.
• Respond promptly to emergency calls, alarms, and incidents, providing first‑aid or coordinating with emergency services as needed.
• Enforce university policies, local, state, and federal regulations related to public safety.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain accurate records of activities.
• Assist in crowd control, event security, and special projects as directed by campus safety leadership.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in law enforcement or security preferred.
• Valid security officer certification or ability to obtain one.
• Strong observational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with a diverse university community.
