Public Relations and Marketing Specialist

About the role

The Washington State Nurses Association seeks a skilled communicator to amplify nurses’ collective voice across workplaces and the public arena. Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will translate complex nursing, labor and health‑care policy issues into clear, compelling messages that support organizing, bargaining and advocacy efforts.

Key responsibilities

• Write and edit member communications, newsletters, web and social content, and campaign materials.
• Develop marketing communications to support membership recruitment, engagement and retention.
• Promote union and association events, trainings, conferences and labor actions.
• Draft press releases, statements, advisories and talking points, and assist with media outreach.
• Monitor news and social media, crafting timely organizational responses on issues affecting nurses.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in communications, PR, marketing, journalism or related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or nonprofit/union work.
• Familiarity with nursing, labor relations, health‑care policy or professional association environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines and review processes with strong attention to detail.

Required skills

• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, with familiarity with AP style.
• Working knowledge of email marketing, website content management and social media platforms.
• Ability to track basic communications metrics and adapt messaging accordingly.
