Public & Media Relations Internship

About the role

This internship offers hands‑on experience in public and media relations within a professional sports organization. You will work directly with the Communications Department and support the media operations for New York Islanders home games.

Key responsibilities

• Attend all Islanders home games, including pre‑season and post‑season, and assist with game‑day media operations.
• Manage media credentialing, press‑box set‑up, hospitality, and statistical distribution.
• Distribute game notes, statistics, and other media materials to journalists, scouts, and team staff.
• Maintain the press box and media workroom, ensuring a professional environment.
• Compile daily news clippings for internal use.
• Support the Communications Department with administrative tasks and research.
• Help the PR team prepare pre‑game materials and coordinate media outreach.

Required profile

• Organized, detail‑oriented self‑starter who can multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
• Professional demeanor, punctuality, and appropriate attire.
• Comfortable using AP Style for written communications.
• Strong interest in hockey and sports media preferred.
• Previous experience in public relations, communications, or journalism is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
• Proficiency with Adobe InDesign.
