Public Health Environmental Compliance Specialist II

About the role

Under direct supervision and in a training status, you will learn to conduct environmental health inspections of food service establishments, swimming pools, tourist accommodations, on‑site sewage systems, mobile home parks, and body‑art studios for the State of Georgia Public Health Department. You will also investigate complaints, provide education, and support countywide compliance programs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections of a variety of facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health regulations.
• Investigate public complaints and recommend corrective or enforcement actions as needed.
• Provide environmental health education and technical assistance to the public, regulated businesses, and officials.
• Assist in implementing a countywide compliance monitoring and enforcement program.
• Serve as a liaison between the public health agency, facilities, municipalities, and other government entities.
• Interpret and apply environmental health laws, rules, and regulations.
• Respond to emergency situations as required by the Public Health department.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate willing to learn in a supervised environment.
• Strong interest in environmental health and public safety.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision after training.
• Effective communication skills for public education and liaison duties.
