Public Communications Specialist II – Internal Communications

About the role

The City of Colorado Springs seeks a creative communicator to lead internal communications, strengthen employee engagement, and support the city’s digital presence. This full‑time, exempt position focuses on delivering clear, consistent messaging across all departments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the internal communications strategy to inform, engage, and connect city employees.
• Develop, manage, and deliver communication programs, tools, and campaigns that support organizational culture.
• Produce content for newsletters, intranet, email updates, and other internal channels.
• Coordinate storytelling initiatives that highlight employee accomplishments.
• Advise departments on best practices for internal communication and ensure alignment with city messaging.
• Maintain and update city website content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with digital standards.
• Write and revise web copy using plain‑language and accessibility guidelines.
• Collaborate with various departments to gather information and support content needs.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in strategic communications planning, digital communications, and internal communications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to translate organizational priorities into clear, engaging messages.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) for website updates.
• Experience using newsletter production or editing tools.
• Knowledge of web accessibility standards and basic web best practices.
