Project Manager / Estimator - General Construction

About the role

A well-established general contractor specializing in convenience stores, fueling stations and small retail developments across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic is hiring a Project Manager / Estimator. The role supports preconstruction and construction management for active and upcoming C-store and fueling station projects, and suits a junior- to mid-level professional (3-7 years of experience) who wants hands-on responsibility and autonomy. It is a full-time position based in Fredericksburg, VA, with flexibility to work on projects in the Richmond area.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for C-store, fueling and light commercial construction projects.
• Manage projects from preconstruction through closeout, including scheduling, budgeting and subcontractor coordination.
• Perform quantity take-offs and analyze plans, drawings and specifications.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, safety and quality.
• Maintain client communication and ensure milestones are met on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with field superintendents, project engineers and accounting staff, and support business development and proposal efforts when required.

Required profile

• 3-7 years of experience in commercial construction, preferably with C-store, fuel station or retail site development projects.
• Experience in both estimating and project management roles.
• Working knowledge of construction documents, specifications and subcontractor coordination.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and timelines.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field preferred but not required.
• Willingness to travel regionally to project sites as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam and estimating or project management software.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
