Project Finance Associate

About the role

The Associate will join BBVA's Project Finance team in New York, supporting the origination, structuring, and execution of infrastructure and energy deals. The role offers exposure to senior‑level tasks such as deal documentation and financial modelling while working closely with both US and Madrid teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior members with underwriting, due diligence, and financial analysis of project finance opportunities.
• Maintain and support internal applications for product and credit functions.
• Prepare market material and client pitch decks.
• Draft information memoranda and lender presentations for lead‑role transactions and coordinate bank meetings.
• Support the technical and legal diligence process and oversee structuring through deal closing.
• Manage portfolio reporting on in‑process and closed transactions, including fee recognition interaction with finance.
• Interact with the Madrid team and distribute internal reports to relevant areas.
• Participate in client meetings, loan closing monitoring, and due‑diligence/legal meetings.
• Identify and utilise research tools and derivative instruments as needed.

Required profile

• Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in corporate or investment banking project finance, or in construction/energy firms.
• Fluent English; Spanish fluency preferred.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines.
• Understanding of financial statement analysis, DCF analysis and project finance risk assessment.
