Project Engineer – Lead Professional

About the role

WSP is seeking a Project Engineer – Lead Professional to join its Small Utility Services team. Based primarily in Lakewood, Colorado (with additional locations considered), you will manage technical engineering projects for public‑power clients, focusing on substation, transmission, generation, and related studies.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams across offices to deliver seamless engineering solutions for municipal, cooperative, REA, and PUD utilities.
• Review, approve, and QA/QC electrical infrastructure design plans for mid‑level to complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques throughout concept development, design, procurement, construction, and operation phases.
• Engage with public and private stakeholders to discuss engineering, construction, and operational challenges.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that communicate findings, recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Identify business development opportunities and help grow the client base for high‑level electrical engineering services.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering technical growth and professional development.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience delivering projects for public‑power or non‑investor owned utilities.
• Strong understanding of substation, transmission, and generation systems.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
• Commitment to ethical decision‑making and adherence to company standards.
