Project Engineer – Electrical Utilities (Lead Professional)

About the role

WSP is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Small Utility Services team. The position will be based in Lakewood, Colorado, with consideration for other locations, and will manage technical engineering projects for public‑power clients.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead substation, transmission, generation, and study projects for electrical utilities.
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines and offices to deliver seamless client experiences.
• Review, approve, and ensure compliance of electrical infrastructure design plans with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques throughout concept development, design, procurement, construction, and operation phases.
• Engage with public and private stakeholders to address engineering and construction challenges.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations.
• Develop a client base and identify business development opportunities.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing QA/QC oversight.

Required profile

• Experience working with municipal, cooperative, REA, or PUD utility clients.
• Ability to manage mid‑level to complex projects and ensure data integrity.
• Strong communication skills for client interaction and stakeholder meetings.
• Commitment to staying current with electrical engineering practices.
