Project Archaeologist

About the role

HDR is seeking a Project Archaeologist to lead archaeological surveys supporting its Power, Transportation and Water projects across the South‑Central United States. The role combines field work, data collection, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with cultural resource regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage archaeological surveys including shovel testing, auger testing, mechanized trenching, site delineation, documentation, feature and artifact identification, photography, and mapping.
• Supervise archaeological field technicians and crew chiefs in both field and office environments.
• Prepare archaeological site forms, descriptions, and eligibility evaluations.
• Produce professional‑quality reports that meet state and federal regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with HDR Business Groups (Power, Transportation, Water) in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and nationally to plan, staff, and execute cultural resource management efforts.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
• Experience identifying and recording pre‑contact and historic resources.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in rugged, remote, hot or cold environments.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision.
• Experience managing archaeological teams of technicians.
