Program Manager, Communications & External Relations

About the role

The Institute for Systems Research (ISR) at the University of Maryland seeks an experienced communicator to lead its communications and external relations efforts. The Program Manager will define strategic communication objectives, curate print and digital content, and support the ISR Director.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement ISR’s strategic communications plan and curate print and digital content.
• Manage ISR’s digital outreach, including website, social media, newsletters, and produce high‑quality copy for university and media publications.
• Collaborate with ISR faculty, the Clark School, and campus partners to amplify research impact.
• Develop and maintain relationships with government, industry, and academic stakeholders.
• Oversee promotional activities for ISR events from planning through post‑event follow‑up.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least three years of professional communications or marketing experience.
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to multitask while delivering customer service.

Required skills

• Technical proficiency in web design and content management systems.
• Graphic design and photo‑manipulation capabilities.
• Familiarity with the Associated Press Stylebook and branding guidelines.

What we offer

• Salary range $91,000 – $109,000 per year.
• Eligibility for one telework day per week after probation (not guaranteed).
