Professor & Department Head, Agricultural Sciences

About the role

West Texas A&M University seeks a distinguished scholar to serve as Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. This twelve‑month, tenured position provides academic leadership for a department serving 1,200 students and a broad regional agricultural community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic vision and day‑to‑day leadership for faculty, staff, and students.
• Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and promote faculty and staff to sustain excellence in teaching, research, and service.
• Oversee fiscal and operational management of research and educational programs, including budgets, facilities, and grant administration.
• Develop and implement undergraduate and graduate curricula aligned with regional industry needs.
• Forge partnerships with agricultural industry leaders to enhance research relevance and student opportunities.
• Coordinate with university executive leadership to secure resources and support departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in an agricultural science discipline or closely related field.
• Tenured faculty rank with a strong record of research, teaching, and service.
• Demonstrated experience in academic administration or department leadership.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and large, multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to regional agricultural development.
