Professor & Department Head – Agricultural Sciences

About the role

West Texas A&M University seeks a tenured Professor who will also serve as Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. This twelve‑month faculty appointment provides academic leadership for a department serving 1,200 students across undergraduate and graduate programs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic academic leadership to faculty, staff, and students within the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
• Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and promote faculty and staff to sustain excellence in teaching, research, and service.
• Oversee fiscal and operational management of all departmental research and educational programs.
• Develop and implement curricula that prepare graduates for regional and global agricultural industries.
• Collaborate with industry partners to align teaching, research, and outreach with regional agricultural needs.
• Coordinate with university executive leadership to secure resources and support for departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in an agricultural science discipline or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly research, teaching excellence, and service.
• Experience in academic administration, preferably as a department chair or similar leadership role.
• Strong ability to secure external funding and manage budgets.
• Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.
