Professional Social Service Worker – Part‑time (Thomasville, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Professional Social Service Worker to provide rehabilitation counseling, referral services, and resident evaluation for youth at the Loftiss RYDC in Thomasville. This part‑time, hourly position works under broad supervision and supports the mental health and social development of assigned clients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform intake services and mental health screenings for youth, ensuring completion within policy timelines.
• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, interview youth and families, and gather relevant background information.
• Develop written assessment reports, determine appropriate services, and make referrals to external providers as needed.
• Provide individual, group, and family therapeutic counseling to promote positive behavioral and social change.
• Maintain confidentiality, develop treatment and crisis‑management plans, and document all actions promptly.
• File assessments and updates accurately in each youth’s record.

Required profile

• Ability to work under broad supervision while delivering counseling and referral services.
• Experience interviewing youth and families, reviewing records, and identifying psychosocial stressors.
• Competence in completing written mental health assessments following professional standards and agency policies.
• Skill in developing and implementing treatment and crisis‑management plans.
• Commitment to confidentiality and accurate documentation.
